I observed that the Volterrani like a balanced life. They want a happy family or relationship, a stable income, own their apartment, own a car, an apartment or house near the sea, take care of one’s parents when they get old. Eating good food is very important. They let the children be children, the teenagers be teenagers, young people young people… The adults are sympathetic, patient and not nosy! Most Volterrani are educated and speak astonishingly correct Italian. My younger son noticed that the Volterrani are greeting each other by their first names in the street because they all went to school together.
There is a technical school at the corner of my street. At night, the boys are sitting and discussing on the stairs below my house. They listen to Italian rap songs and among themselves speak almost pure Italian with few slang words. I am always astonished how well-behaved they are.
The Volterrani appreciate music, art, literature, movies… They respect teachers and artists.
I guess the people who live in Volterra know that they could earn more elswhere but decided to live in Volterra because they prioritize their quality of life.
