Houses have their own history, independent of the owners. Houses in Volterra go back 3000 years. Under the basement of my house, there is a cisterne, and who knows below that, what foundations, what rests of former houses? Are there connections to other houses who before were connected with my house? I am shy to say my because the house is indefinitely old and probably will still be there when my name is forgotten.
